Woman and Her 2 Children Found Dead in Ranchi Home; Mental Illness Suspected

A woman and her two young children were found dead at their home in the Latma area of Ranchi, under the Jagarnathpur Police Station limits, on Sunday. Police believe the three may have died by suicide and have started a full investigation into the matter.

The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Sanyukta Singh, her 14-year-old daughter Aradhya Singh, and 12-year-old son Aarav Singh. The family roots are in the Aurangabad district in Bihar.

Father Raised Alarm After Failed Visit

Police said Sanyukta had been living separately from her husband for the past five years and was involved in divorce proceedings. The children lived with her in Ranchi.

The incident was discovered when her husband, who was in Ranchi for a court hearing, went to visit the children. After getting no response to repeated phone calls and finding that their phones were switched off, he reached out to a relative. That relative eventually informed the police, who went to the house.

Relatives Share Concerns About Her Mental Health

One relative, Dilip Singh, told the media that, “We were informed in the evening that all three were found hanging. We do not know why she did this. He explained that Sanyukta had been receiving treatment for mental health problems. “Sometimes she would run away from home. She would panic when she saw groups of people and scream that someone was trying to hurt or kidnap her. Because of this, we kept our distance,” he added.

Family Noticed Isolation and Changes in Behaviour

Amit Singh, a relative, said, “She was my aunt. My uncle had come to Ranchi for a court hearing and was hoping to see the children. But the building’s security guard said no one had seen them for two days. When there was no answer at the door, he called the police.

He added, “She had not been doing well mentally for a while. She often stayed alone and spent hours in religious practices. Police are continuing their investigation to confirm the cause and exact timeline of the deaths. Family members are waiting for the postmortem report to get more details.
